Every summer the islands of Vinalhaven and North Haven on Maine’s Penobscot Bay host world-class musicians who bring their artistry to receptive and enthusiastic audiences. We maintain close associations with many other musical organizations in Maine and beyond. Through these networks we have secured renowned artists from near and far. Notable ensembles have included

           the Brentano String Quartet,

the Los Angles Guitar Quartet,

and the Portland Piano Trio.

Distinguished soloists have included

Frederick Moyer, piano,

Shmuel Ashkenasi, violin,

and Christopher Costanza, cello.

Founded in 1960, Fox Islands Concerts serves both the Vinalhaven and North Haven communities. A roster of the outstanding musicians who have performed over more than sixty years at Fox Islands Concerts can be found here.

Concerts are held at Smith Hokanson Memorial Hall on Vinalhaven and at Waterman’s Community Center on North Haven. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

Fox Islands Concerts is guided by a board of Trustees, who work in collaboration with our Artistic Director.

The Maine State Ferry Service runs morning and afternoon boats from Rockland to both islands and back. Vinalhaven is 13 miles from Rockland, North Haven somewhat closer. Transportation between the islands for concerts is run by Brown’s Boatyard in North Haven.

Visitors from the mainland who wish to attend a concert should arrange for lodging in advance. Rooms are available on Vinalhaven at the Tidewater Motel and the Libby House Inn, and on North Haven at the Nebo Lodge.

With the help of generous donor contributions, Fox Islands Concerts acquired a fine Steinway piano in 2007 for its concerts at Smith Hokanson Memorial Hall in Vinalhaven. Pictures of the piano and the story of its arrival on the island can be found here.
