For over sixty years, amid the pines and granite crags of the Maine islands of North Haven and Vinalhaven, and within steps of the sea, Fox Islands Concerts has presented extraordinary music performed by artists of international repute. Ensembles such as the St. Lawrence and the Brentano string quartets have enchanted both local residents and summer visitors, as have distinguished pianists such as Leonard Hokanson and Frederick Moyer. Contemporary composers have brought exciting new music to the islands, and groups like the Sospiro Winds and the Louisiana Jazz Repertory Ensemble have expanded listeners’ horizons. We maintain close associations with many other musical organizations in Maine and beyond. Through these networks we have secured renowned artists from near and far.

A roster of the outstanding musicians who have performed over more than sixty years at Fox Islands Concerts can be found here.

Concerts are held at Smith Hokanson Memorial Hall on Vinalhaven and at Waterman’s Community Center on North Haven. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Maine State Ferry Service runs morning and afternoon boats from Rockland to both islands and back. Vinalhaven is 13 miles from Rockland, North Haven somewhat closer. Transportation between the islands for concerts is run by Brown’s Boatyard in North Haven. Visitors from the mainland who wish to attend a concert should arrange for lodging in advance. Rooms are available on Vinalhaven at the Tidewater Motel and the Libby House Inn, and on North Haven at the Nebo Lodge.

Founded in 1960, Fox Islands Concerts serves both the Vinalhaven and North Haven communities. To learn how to assist our vital mission, click on the Support page.

With the help of generous donor contributions, Fox Islands Concerts acquired a fine Steinway piano in 2007 for its concerts at Smith Hokanson Memorial Hall in Vinalhaven. Pictures of the piano and the story of its arrival on the island can be found here.
